# Connect ServiceNow

> Register an OAuth application on your ServiceNow instance, then connect it to GC AI

ServiceNow connects through an OAuth application that your ServiceNow admin registers on your instance. The application acts as one ServiceNow user you choose, so GC AI can read exactly the records and attachments that user can read, and nothing else. GC AI only reads from ServiceNow. It never creates or changes records.

## Set up your instance (ServiceNow admins)

<Steps>
  <Step title="Allow the Client Credentials grant">
    In **System Properties**, set `glide.oauth.inbound.client.credential.grant_type.enabled` to `true`. Create the property if it does not exist. Your instance needs the Washington DC release or later.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the user GC AI acts as">
    Create a user with **Web service access only** checked. Give it the `rest_service` role and read access to the tables you want GC AI to reach, such as your legal requests and contract repository.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Register the OAuth application">
    In **System OAuth → Application Registry**, select **New**, then **Create an OAuth API endpoint for external clients**. Set **Default Grant Type** to **Client Credentials** and **OAuth Application User** to the user from the last step. Save, then copy the Client ID and Client Secret.
  </Step>
</Steps>

To limit the application further, add a **REST API Auth Scope** that allows only the Table API, the Attachment API, and the Aggregate API. GC AI uses no other ServiceNow APIs.

## Connect in GC AI

Open **Settings → Integrations → Agent Connectors**, select **Connect** on ServiceNow, and enter your instance address (for example, `acme.service-now.com`), the Client ID, and the Client Secret.

## What you can do

With ServiceNow connected, you can ask GC AI in chat to:

* Find a table by name, such as your legal requests or contract repository
* Look up records and follow references to related records
* List the files attached to a record and read them

You can also add a ServiceNow table as a source in [Contract Intelligence](/guides/contract-intelligence/getting-started-with-contract-intelligence). GC AI brings in the PDF, Word, and text files attached to that table's records, and picks up new ones on each sync. The picker lists the tables where GC AI finds documents it can read. To add a different table, search for it by name, such as `ast_contract`.
