Why Use Reusable Prompts?
- Consistency: Ensure that similar tasks are always handled the same way, following specific guidelines or formats.
- Efficiency: Save time by avoiding repetitive typing for common requests like summarizing meeting notes, drafting standard clauses, or reviewing documents for specific risks.
- Accuracy: Reduce the chance of errors or omissions by using a pre-defined, well-crafted prompt.
- Collaboration: Share effective prompts with your team to standardize workflows and ensure everyone benefits from best practices.
Elements of a Good Reusable Prompt
An effective reusable prompt is clear, specific, and provides sufficient context for GC AI. Here are key elements to include:-
Clear Goal/Task: State precisely what you want GC AI to do.
- Vague: “Review this contract.”
- Clear: “Review the attached Master Services Agreement (MSA) and identify any clauses that deviate significantly from our standard template (attached as context), focusing on indemnification, limitation of liability, and payment terms.”
-
Context: Provide necessary background information. This could include:
- The type of document (e.g., NDA, Lease Agreement, Privacy Policy).
- Relevant parties involved.
- Specific laws or regulations to consider (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Your company’s specific requirements or risk tolerance (often drawn from your Company Profile, but can be reiterated or refined here).
-
Desired Output Format: Specify how you want the results presented.
- Examples: “Provide the output as a bulleted list.”, “Generate a redlined version of the document.”, “Summarize the key risks in a short paragraph.”, “Draft the clause using the language provided in the Company Profile.”
-
Role or Persona (Optional): You can ask GC AI to adopt a specific role.
- Example: “Act as an experienced in-house counsel specializing in SaaS contracts…”
-
Constraints or Negatives (Optional): Tell GC AI what not to do.
- Example: “Do not include any recommendations for alternative wording, just identify the deviations.”, “Exclude any discussion of pricing.”
Steps to Create and Save a Reusable Prompt
- Identify a Recurring Task: Think about tasks you perform frequently with GC AI (e.g., reviewing NDAs, summarizing deposition transcripts, drafting cease and desist letters).
- Draft the Prompt: Write a detailed prompt incorporating the elements above. Test and refine it in the chat interface until you consistently get the desired results.
- Access the Saved Prompts Feature: Navigate to the area in GC AI where you manage reusable prompts (this might be labeled Saved Prompts, Prompt Library, or similar).
- Create a New Prompt:
- Select the option to add a new prompt.
- Give it a clear, descriptive Name (e.g., “NDA Review - Vendor Focused”, “Summarize Meeting Notes - Action Items Only”).
- Paste your refined prompt text into the designated field.
- Add any relevant Tags or Categories if the feature supports it, to make it easier to find later.
- Save the Prompt: Select Save or Create.
Using Your Reusable Prompts
When you need to perform the task:- Go to the GC AI chat interface.
- Find the option to use a saved prompt (often a button or menu).
